Flu season is still here, and allergy season isn’t far behind. And as much as I love spring, I’m not looking forward to the symptoms that may come with it. Enter- these homemade wellness shots! Each of the ingredients in these shots is a superfood packed with anti-inflammatory and immune boosting properties. They can help support the body in many ways- allowing you to fight off pathogens, improve gut health and reduce allergies.

My Nutritionist Notes: I would highly recommend using all organic produce here to prevent ingesting harmful pesticides and herbicides that harm your health instead of helping it. Also, make sure to wash your produce well too, even if it’s organic. Listed below are tips on how I wash my produce. These recipes do not fit a low acid protocol due to some acidic ingredients.

TIPS TO WASHING PRODUCE:

STEP ONE: Add your produce to a large bowl. Fill with cold water. You want your produce completely covered. Add 2 Tbls of Baking Soda.

STEP TWO: Let the produce soak for 10-15 minutes. Then rinse very well. The baking soda soak helps break down pesticides, herbicides and dirt.

STEP THREE: Add the washed produce back to the bowl. Fill with cold water again.

STEP FOUR: Now add 1/8 c White Vinegar. Let the produce soak for another 10 minutes. Then rinse well again.

STEP FIVE: Dry the produce thoroughly before storing and eating.

*You can also use high quality veggie soaks like Pure Haven or Young Living Thieves. If you’re following a low acid protocol, be mindful when soaking your produce in vinegar. It should fully wash off (it does not soak into the fruit or vegetables); however, it could still be a possible trigger for some. Baking Soda alone can effectively remove up to 95% of pesticides from produce.

HOMEMADE GINGER IMMUNE SHOTS

These homemade ginger shots are a great way to boost your health any time of the year! They are packed with anti-inflammatory properties and cancer fighting nutrients to help support the body in all kinds of ways. No juicer needed for this recipe either!

INGREDIENTS: 1/3 c 100% Pure Coconut Water, 1 Large Orange (Peeled and cut into pieces), 2 Small Knobs of Fresh Turmeric (peeled and chopped), 1/8 c Fresh Ginger Root (peeling and chopped), 1/3 c Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice, Pinch of Black Pepper (about 1/4 tsp, necessary for proper nutrient absorption), Additional Tools - Small Glass Jars with Lids, Blender, Optional Small Hole Strainer, Nut Milk Bag or Mesh Cloth

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Prep your ginger, turmeric and orange. Wash thoroughly.

  2. Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender and blend until smooth.

  3. Strain the mixture through a strainer or nut milk bag to remove any chunks.

  4. Pour the strained liquid into small glass jars with lids. Mine are 3 oz. Store jars in the refrigerator for up to a week. My family takes one shot on an empty stomach.

BERRY BEET ENERGY WELLNESS SHOT

Both beets and berries are full of a wide range of nutrients to help boost overall health. Beets can encourage healthy digestion, keep your liver and kidneys healthy, reduce inflammation, improve energy and more. Berries are rich in fiber, antioxidants, vitamins (hello Vitamin C!), and many anti-inflammatory nutrients. This combo is a power combo for your health!
