WHY GO NON-TOXIC?
It’s all over our feeds and the news these days. We hear story after story (see Kellogg’s lawsuits and protests for example) and see report after report about the harmful and toxic ingredients not only in our food but in our skincare, our cleaning products, our household products and even our clothes. Toxins and chemicals that more and more scientific studies are showing our harmful to our bodies, contributing to all kinds of chronic health concerns and even cancer. Emerging research has linked these ingredients to hormone disruption, central nervous system disorders, impaired immune system, chemical sensitivity, diabetes, skin issues, asthma, gut health disorders and even cancer.
Throughout my healing journey over the past few years, I have dug deep into not only the food we eat but also what’s in the products we are using in our home. I know that I want to keep the exposure to these harmful ingredients to a minimum in my home. I want to strive to keep my family healthy and limit their exposure to harmful contaminants as much as possible.
However, attempting to switch your household over to a cleaner environment can be challenging, frustrating and confusing. It doesn’t help that some brands “greenwash” their products - advertising them as clean when in fact they are far from. How? It’s pretty easy. Although in the EU there are many rules around this, companies can get away with tricking the consumer into thinking a product is clean by using vague language and gimmicks. Most consumers are also not aware of which ingredients are harmful, and which are not. They assume a brand is what it says it is. It’s crucial to know the difference to help your family be as healthy as possible. Therefore, I have created a general guide to help you navigate the minefield of options. In part one and part two of this guide, we will discuss cleaner, healthier options for water consumption, cookware, cleaning products, personal care items, clean food products and more! Simple Swaps to help you slowly adjust your home to a healthier environment.
